Commercial Truck Insurance and CA Business Insurance

As a small business owner, it is possible that there is quite a bit of traffic between your business premises and your home. Have you considered whether that may affect your ability to make a claim on your business insurance if something goes wrong?

Let’s assume you have all your business insurance in place – property cover, workers’ compensation, commercial auto cover and liability. But recently, the last of your kids moved out and you found you had an extra room and a spare garage, just when you needed some more storage space for stock. That’s great – you move your stock in and you save yourself the cost of having to rent a space someplace else. Then, you become victim of a break-in and some of that stock is stolen and other stock damaged. Are you covered for that loss?

If you didn’t extend your business insurance to cover that stock off-site, you may not be. Your house and contents insurance usually covers personal effects, but anything out of the ordinary or of high value needs to be specifically named in a policy. If what you lost is part of your business, it is more than likely that it won’t be covered.

It is important not to make assumptions that existing insurance policies will give you the same cover when circumstances change. As you grow or expand, you’ll need to ensure that your commercial truck insurance policy keeps up with the changes.
